Floyd County Treasurer from 1933-1948.


Son of Ewald and Christina Scherf Laun. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1913. At the University of Iowa, he affiliated with the Delta Chi fraternity.

At the University of Iowa during the years immediately prior to the outbreak of World War I, Mr. Laun was a varsity football back famed for his long punts. He won major letters there in 1915, 1916 and 1917 and was 1916 team captain.

He Enlisted in the army during World War I at Jefferson Barracks, MO., serving in the infantry. After a period in a Camp Dodge training school, he served as bayonet instructor and camp athletic instructor at Camp Pike, Ark., holding the rank of first lieutenant. He was discharged in April of 1919.

Automobile dealer from 1919 to 1932.

Married Bernice Gayle Easterly in Nashua, Chickasaw County, Iowa on June 12, 1920.

Served as County treasurer from 1933 to to his unexpected death in 1948. Died from a heart attack in a doctors chair under examination.

"C.E. (Chuck) Laun, 53 year old treasurer, died unexpectedly at 10:15 a.m. today in a local physician's office. Death was due to heart attack."
"Serving continously since 1933, Mr. Laun, a republican, was completing the final year of his eighth term as county treasurer."
