Helen C. Eppley, 93, of Madison, died Monday, July 14, 2008, at The Waters of Clifty Falls.

She was born June 1, 1915, in Kent, the daughter of William and Ruth Barron Schmidlap. She worked at the former Reed's Laundry for several years and also worked in food service at Madison State Hospital. She was a member of North Madison Christian Church and was a former member of Kent Christian Church, having joined the church in 1925. Kent Christian Church was co-founded by her great-great-great-great-grandfather Thomas Ramsey in 1830, after he was one of the first early settlers of the Kent area. Her survivors include her brother, Leon Schmidlap and several nieces and nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Brad Eppley, who died May 12, 1986; one infant daughter, Ruth Ann Eppley; her father, who died in 1951; her mother, who died in 1991; one sister, Elsie Moore who died May 11, 2008; and three brothers, Clarence Schmidlap, who died in 1919, Junior Schmidlap, who died in 1925, and Glen Schmidlap, who died in 1990.

The funeral was at Vail-Holt Funeral Homes Hilltop Chapel. Burial was in Kent Cemetery.
