Major League Baseball Player. He was born Charles Klein Stobbs in Wheeling, West Virginia and raised in Norfolk, Virginia. He was a left-handed pitcher for fifteen seasons (1947 to 1961) with the Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox, Washington Senators, St. Louis Cardinals and Minnesota Twins. A standout athlete during his high school years, he excelled at basketball, football and baseball. Stobbs made his big league debut at the age of 18 on September 15, 1947. He enjoyed his most successful season in 1956, when he recorded 15 wins. In 459 career games, he won 107 and lost 130 with a 4.29 lifetime ERA. He was inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame in 2002. He died of cancer in Sarasota, Florida.
