CPL Jerome "Jerry" Edward Bowers, Jr. was the son of Jerome "Choke" Edward and Dorothy L. (Gardner) Bowers, Sr. He was the "joy" of his paternal grandfather's heart" - Charles J. Bowers. Jerry served in the US Army in the Vietnam War from August 19, 1969 to April 18, 1970 - Killed In Action at the age of 23.

BOWERS.--Pfc, Jerome Edward Bowers, age 23, of 405 West Main Street, Ridgway was reported killed on April 18, while serving with the U.S. Army, Company C, First Air Cavalry Division in Vietnam. The Army reported he was killed when mortar fire had landed in the area in which his patrol was operating. His family was notified Monday evening. He joined the Army in August, 1969, received his basic training at Ft. Dix, New Jersey and Ft. Lewis, Washington and left for Vietnam on January 27, 1970. He was born March 25, 1947, in Ridgway, the son of Jerome and Dorothy Gardner Bowers. He attended Ridgway Area Schools and was employed by West End Technical Service Station in St. Marys before entering the service. Survivors include his parents; one brother, Richard and one sister Barbara Ann both at home; his paternal grandfather, Charles Bowers of Ridgway. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be in charge of the Lehman-Hammond Funeral Home, 136 Center Street.
