US Congressman. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania's medical school in 1798 and became a physician. In 1804 he was elected to the US House of Representatives as a Democratic-Republican. He was reelected in 1806 and served from March, 1805 until his death. He was the son of Congressman Thomas Claiborne, the brother of Congressman Thomas Claiborne, and the cousin of House members Nathaniel H. and J.F.H. Claiborne, Governor William C.C. Claiborne and General Ferdinand L. Claiborne.
