MILL CREEK - Leonard Bailey, 78, entered into a new life Friday, May 11, 2001, at his residence following a one-year illness.

Born Jan. 26, 1923, at Glen Fork, he was the son of the late Green W. Bailey (1896-1974) and Leola Accord-Bailey (1900-1963).

Mr. Bailey was a retired coal miner, last working at Island Creek Coal Co. He was a member of Mill Creek Freewill Baptist Church and the Baileysville Sportsman's Club.

He was preceded in death by a son, Danny "Joe" Bailey (1950-1975); a brother, Robert "Earl" Bailey (1919-1999); and four sisters, Virgie Bailey-Adams (1915-1992), Ruth Bailey-Mitchell (1918-Deceased), Lillie Mae Bailey-Thompson (Deceased) and Nancy Bailey-Graham (Deceased). Mr. Bailey was the last surviving member of his family.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 59 years, Lillie "Mae" Ferguson-Bailey (1926-2017) whom he married on July 4, 1942 in Baileysville, Wyoming County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Wyoming County, WV, 1942, Page 459, Application Date: July 1, 1942); three daughters, Myrtle "Tupie" Ann Bailey-Blankenship (B. 1942) & husband, Theodore Kaboose Blankenship (1935-2018) of Pineville, Faye Bailey-Lester & husband Fred Lester of Catlettsburg KY, and Lisa Bailey-Lambert of Pineville; four sons, Buddy Bailey& wife Nancy of Pittsburgh, Bob Bailey & wife Barbara of Hebron OH, Wayne Bailey & wife Barbara of Mill Creek and Gary Bailey of Leesville SC; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and many loving nephews, nieces, friends and neighbors.

Service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 14, 2001 at Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, Pineville, with the Revs. Rodney Hatfield, Bill Goode, Lee Fischer and Willie May officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
