Rescey was son of Amos and Rebecca Wright Totten. He was with his parents in Lawrence Co. MO in 1860. He joined Co. K, 7th Regt. Enrolled Missouri Militia 25 Sep 1863 at Mt. Vernon, MO and on 20 Jan 1864 joined Co. I, 2nd MO Light Artillery at Springfield.
