Opera Conductor. He founded The Lyric Opera of Chicago, and the Dallas Opera. Originally intending to be an attorney, he graduated from the Sapienza University in Rome with a law degree. Upon his return to America, he attended the Juilliard School, and made his conducting debut, with the San Carlo Opera Company, in 1943. Maestro Rescigno founded the Lyric Opera in 1954. He conducted the American debuts of numerous singers including Maria Callas, Joan Sutherland, Jon Vickers, and Placido Domingo. Busy conducting at most of the world's leading opera houses, he made his Metropolitan Opera debut in 1978, leading "Don Pasquale", with Beverly Sills as Norina. He leaves behind a large legacy of recordings.
