U.S. Congressman. He attended Jefferson College, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1811 and commenced the practice of law in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives, (1816-20). In 1827, he was elected as a non-party canidate to the Twentieth Congress and reelected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-first through Twenty-third Congresses, serving until 1835. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was elected judge of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, 1846 and served until his death at age 64.
