Journalist, Music Producer. He was instrumental in shaping Rhythm and Blues music, and produced such standards as Aretha Franklin's "Respect," Percy Sledge's "When A Man Loves A Woman" and Wilson Pickett's "In The Midnight Hour." He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.
