US Congressman. A native of County Mayo, Ireland, he immigrated to the United States at the age of seven with his parents. He worked in the coal mines of Scranton, Pennsylvania, for thirteen years and served in the Eleventh Regiment, United States Army, during the Spanish-American War. He became a locomotive engineer and was a member of the Scranton School Board. He presented credentials as a Democratic Member-elect to Congress and served from 1919 to 1921, when he was succeeded by John R. Farr, who contested the election. He was employed as a locomotive engineer until his death.
