Emigrated from Ireland between 1788 and 1792. Married Catherine (Kitty) Holmes in 1787. George and Kitty were charter members of the Methodist church organized in 1799-1800 by Robert Richford Roberts who later became the first Methodist Bishop in Indiana. George bought 200 acres of land in Mercer County on November 2, 1799. The deed gave Allegheny County, PA as his previous residence and his name was spelled "McFetridge" on the deed. The land was described as "on the water of the Shenango." George and Kitty had nine children.
