The son of Christoph Heinrich Scherf & Susanne Magdelena Horn.

"Last Friday the body of Christian Scherf who died on Wednesday 23 September in Ventura, Cerro Gordo County, Iowa was brought here [Charles City]. The memorial service was held in the German Methodist Church in St Charles under the leadership of pastor Wellemeyer. The burial took place at St. Charles cemetery next to his wife who passed away approximately three years ago. He reached the age of 85 years. The deceased leaves six children-three sons and three daughters-namely:Georg, Frank and Eduard and Mrs. Adams, Mrs. Ed. Laun and Mrs. Marie Tegler-"

Christian Andreas Scherf died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Adams, Sept. 23. He was 85 years of age and was born in Saxony [Lobenstein, Thuringia] Germany. There he was married in his 22nd year to Anseina Dinkle [Ernestina "Menia" Duenkel] . When 30 years of age he moved with his family to this country, settling in Milwaukee, where on the following year his faithful wife died. Ten years [sic] later he was united in marriage to Mary Jacob and soon afterwards removed onto a farm [near Baraboo, Wisconsin] where he lived until 1866 when he removed, with his family to Charles City where he settled on a farm, living there until three years ago when upon the death of his wife, he came to this place.

Children for 1st marriage to Ernestine Friedrike Johanna Duenkel. Marriage 25 August 1840 Lobenstein Evangelical Lutheran Church.

To this marriage six children where born, four died of disease within six months of life.
