DEATH OF REV. DR. C. E. MILLER The Popular Pastor of the DeKalb Avenue M. E. Church Passes Away After a Long Illness. The Rev. Dr. Charles E. Miller, pastor of the DeKalb Avenue M. E. Church, died at his residence. 466 DeKalb Avenue, this morning. He had been ill for some time, having been taken sick just previous to the meeting of the New York East Conference in Janes M. E. Church, on March 29, not being able to attend any of its sessions, to the regret of his brethren, his presence always being a welcome one at the meeting of conference because of his hearty manner and agreeable companionship. Dr. Miller was thought a few days ago to be much better and the members of his church had arranged to give him a vacation when he should have rallied sufficiently to go away. His death is due to an attack of the grip, with other serious complications. Dr. Miller was one of the best known ministers in the Methodist denomination. He was Tor a term pastor of 'the First M. E. Church in Greenpoint, where in addition to becoming popular as a preacher of the gospel, his parsonage was the resort of young people who desired to get married, and so frequent were the demands made upon him to perform the wedding ceremony there that his home was looked upon as a sort of Gretna Green. After a most successful pastorate at the First Church he was appointed to the Sixty - first Church in New York, where he was also very successful. Serving a term there, he was unanimously called to the DeKalb Avenue M. E. Church to succeed the Rev. John Rippere, and each year he was invited to return and was appointed by the bishops presiding over the conferences. He did a good work at DeKalb Avenue and was much beloved by his people. He leaves a wife and several children, including a daughter who has for some time been - pursuing the study of medicine. Mrs. Miller is a cultured woman and has been unremitting in her attention to her husband, acting as his sole nurse. The funeral is set for Monday, but the arrangements are not fully complete.

Married to Barbara Keifer. Father of Frederick T. Miller.
