Husband of Blanche Lorena Williams.

He was a graduate of Decatur Junior College; valedictorian of both his high school and college at graduation and a member of Phi Kappa Fraternity.

Being mechanially inclined, using auto parts from the junk dump, he built an engine to power a feed cutter and to turn the cane mill to replace the horse.

He was the owner and operator and mechanic of a service station and garage in "downtown" Decatur.

He was a member of Decatur Business Men's Club, the Independent Garage Owners' Club and Decatur Exchange Club.

He was also member of the Decatur United Methodist Church and secretary of the men's Bible Class for many years.

ALBERT P. THOMPSON FUNERAL IS HELD ON WEDNESDAY

With the death of Albert Powers Thompson on Jan. 22, 1973, Decatur lost one of its most outstanding citizens. Mr. Thompson was stricken ill Saturday morning, carried to Laird Hospital, Union, and on to the Baptist Hospital, Jackson where his death occurred Monday afternoon. He was born in Newton County Sept. 28, 1913, and was the son of lone Barrett and John E. Thompson.

Mr. Thompson was a Decatur businessman, being the operator and mechanic of a service station. He belonged to the Decatur Business Men's Club, the Independent Garage Owners' Club, and has been a longtime member of the Decatur Exchange Club. He was an active member of the Decatur United Methodist Church and was secretary of the Men's Bible Class for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Blanche Thompson; four daughters, Mrs. Ralph Germany (Rosalyn) of Decatur, Mrs. Terrell Young (Christine) of Meridian, Mrs. Bob Tom Johnson (Ellen) of Forest and Mrs. Hardy Tingle (Janice) of Louisville; seven grandchildren;. and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Lou Redd and Mrs. Bertha Roach, both of Huntsville, Ala. Mrs. Emma May McMullan, another sister, is deceased. He also is survived by one aunt Mrs. Maud T. Hollis of Newton.

Officiating ministers at the funeral services for Mr. Thompson, held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 24 at the Decatur United Methodist Church, were the Rev. H. G. Winstead and the Rev. Fred Fowler. Burial was in the Decatur Cemetery.

Pallbearers wore: Kermit Jackson, Reginald Thames, Harvey Wheeler, Will Walton, Bobby Everett. Johnny Comans, Joedy Johnston and Melvin Tingle. Honorary pallbearers were listed as Dr. A. P. Boggan, the United Methodist Church Men's Sunday School Class, the Business Men's Club of Decatur, Exchange Club members, the Meridian Chapter of Independent Garage Owners, employees and friends of the family.

Stephens Funeral Home of Decatur was in charge of arrangements.
