Miss Bonnie Newell McMullan Becomes The Bride Of Mr. Walker On June 4

The Clarke-Venable Memorial Baptist Church in Decatur was the setting for the June 4 wedding of Miss Bonnie Newell McMullan and John Leslie Walker. The bride is the daughter of Charles T. McMullan and the late Mrs. McMullan of Decatur. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Walker of Tylertown.

The 6 p.m. double-ring ceremony was conducted by the Rev. Gus Merritt. Nuptial music was presented by Mrs. Milton Thornton, organist, and Mrs. Robert Munn, vocalist.

Vows were exchanged in a candlelight setting with a background of greenery draped candle trees and ferns. The couple knelt at the prayer bench during The Lord's Prayer.

Formal Gown

The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a formal gown of white silk organza over peau de soie. Etched, hard-clipped silk Venise lace outlined the open Queen Anne neckline and extended over the Empire bodice. The long fitted sleeves were decorated with motifs of lace and had lace-edged flounced ruffles over her hands. The domed floor-length skirt was trimmed with the Venise lace and motifs, and the hem was edged with narrow lace flowers, sweeping back to an attached chapel train. Multi-tiers of English silk illusion cascaded to fingertip length from a profile headpiece of matching Venise lace. The bride carried a bouquet of Tropicana roses with daisies and stephanotis and a white handkerchief which had belonged to her maternal grandmother. Her only jewelry was pearl earrings, a gift of the bridegroom.

Mrs. Richard Gipson, sister of the bride, serving as honorary mother, wore a formal gown and cape of yellow floral silk chiffon.

Mrs. Walker chose for her son's wedding a formal gown of aqua polyester satin and coordinating jacket of floral silk organza. Mrs. J. E. Pigott, maternal grandmother of the bridegroom, wore a blue street-length party dress with a floral overlay and sheer sleeves. They all wore orchid corsages.

Mrs. Cathy McDill served as was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Debbie Smith and Miss Terri Gipson, niece of the bride. They wore gowns of peach quian and each wore peach silk roses in their hair and carried small bouquets of Tropicana roses with baby's breath and foliage.

The flower girls were Miss Emilie McMullan and Miss LeAnn McMullan, nieces of the bride. They wore floor-length peach dresses with printed peach pinafores and carried dainty wicker baskets trimmed with peach ribbon. Each had baby's breath in their hair.

Tim McMullan and Ken McMullan served as ring bearers. Stephen McMullan and Todd Gipson were candle lighters. All are nephews of the bride.

Doug Walker, brother of the bridegroom, served as best man. Groomsmen were Robert McDavid, brother-in-law of the bridegroom, Oscar McGough and Terry McMullan, brother of the bride. Ushers included Brian Askew, Branton Foil, Bob Rogers and Frank Winn.

The wedding was directed by Mr. and Mrs. Joe Clark.

Reception

The reception was held in the fellowship hall of the church following the ceremony. Mrs. Robert McDavid, sister of the bridegroom, registered the guests.

Serving for the bride were Miss Anita Germany, Miss Joyce Crawford and Mrs. Roy Clary. The three-tiered cake was topped with traditional wedding bells and decorated with peach colored roses.

The bridesgroom's table was attended by Mrs. Mae Williams, Mrs. Matt Boykin and Miss Nell Quin. A Norfolk pine with peach ribbon and Mississippi Forestry emblems were used as a centerpiece, and chocolate cake was served. Party sandwiches and tropical fruit cups were served, also.

Miss Margaret Taylor, Miss Lynn Russell, Miss Shirley Reeves and Miss Ava Scoggin were tea girls at the reception.

The stage was decorated with a fountain flowing over magnolia blossoms into a pool of water and had white wrought iron furniture.

Mrs. Madeline Mayes directed the reception, and those assisting were Mrs. Clinton Russell, Mrs. Tom Reeves, Mrs. Bernard Rigdon, Mrs. Charles Harris, Mrs. James Estes, Mrs. John Spence, Mrs. N. F. Smith, Mrs. J. W. Thrash and Mrs. Anon McMullan.

In Philadelphia

After a wedding trip to Nashville, Tenn., and points north, the couple will reside in Philadelphia, where the bridegroom is employed with the Mississippi Forestry Commission, and the bride will be employed with Hilltop Manor Nursing Home, Union.
