Flavel Watson Harris, son of Nathan W. and Charity Emeline Harris, was born in Becket, Mass., June 9, 1841. He was married to Miss Lydia Prentice, Jan. 3, 1867, and to this union four children were born: George E., Julia E., Mary F. and Emma J. His wife's son and daughter, George E. and Mary F. preceded him in death. Two years ago he was married to Mrs. Julia Worden of Massachusetts. He was a great lover of his home and never happier than when his children and grandchildren came home. Mr. Harris came to Jesup 50 years ago. He was the first man in this section of the country to enter the creamery service in which he was extensively engaged for many years and encouraged the farmers to buy cows which made this section a rich dairy country. Altho 79 years of age he was active and up and doing. He loved to travel and spent a part of every year touring the southeast and west. He spent a season in Europe and last winter at Havana, Cuba. He always looked out for those in need and never was there a call for help from any good cause that he was one of the first to answer. He united with the Baptist church in his young manhood and was always a faithful member. He is survived by his widow, two daughters, Julia Stevenson, Jesup and Mrs. Mary Bunnell, Waterloo, and two grandchildren, Mrs. Emma Elliott and Flavel Bunnell; and one great grandchild; also a brother and sister, Dr. D. J. and Miss Martha Harris, Evanston, Ill.
