Maxine confessed Christ at an early age and participated as a youth in her church and community. She was a member of the BTU and an Eastern Star. She was educated in the Indiana School system and attended Booker T. Washington High School. She enjoyed sports and was captain of the girls basketball team.
In 1936 Maxine moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. In 1937 Maxine and Ralph were seventeen and nineteen, respectively, when they were married. From this union three children were born: Ralph Jr., Ronald and Brenda. In 1987 they celebrated their 50th Golden Wedding Anniversary at Carter Temple CME Church. They would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on September 13, 1996.
In 1950 Maxine and Ralph moved to Chicago where Maxine worked as a Crossing Guard from 1952-1967. She touched the lives of many youth during this period and continued to have contact with them. Family was first with Maxine. She was supportive of her husband and children in all of their endeavors. She served her community as a Girl Scout Troop Leader, Cub Scout Den Mother and Vice President and Treasurer of her Block Club. Maxine joined Woodlawn A.M.E. Church where she worked as President, Treasurer and Cheer Committee Chairperson of the Builder's Aid Club. Maxine moved her membership to Carter Temple C.M.E. Church in 1984 where she was active on the Stewardess Board, Commission on Evangelism, Sunday School and Elizabeth Reddick Wednesday Morning Bible Class.
Maxine loved the Lord and had an unquenchable thirst to understand His Word. She loved to witness for the Lord and with others - this was reflected in her manner of dealing with people.
Three siblings preceeded her in death, one sister; Claudean Arnold, two brothers; Henry Dimmitt Jr., and Charles Dimmitt.
God called Maxine home on Friday August 2, 1996 at 8:55 am at the age of 76 years, 7 months 16 days.
