Sophia Kleinfeldt arrived in New York, from Hamburg, Germany, on July 31, 1883 on a ship named, "Westphalia". She was accompanied by her sons Henry (age 3) and Richard (age 2). Presumably, her other two sons, Paul and Lewis, died before she left Germany, as no records have been found of their presence in America.
Her husband, Henry, Sr., was not with them in 1883. This was not unusual for the time. Families often immigrated to the U.S. a few at a time, as finances permitted. Henry did not come to the United States until 1886.
