Obituary published in the Illinois State Journal, Springfield, IL 1-11-1905:

Died, at 12 o'clock, noon, Tuesday, Jan. 10, 1905, at the family residence, 1115 North Tenth street, after an illness of two weeks, Henry Whipple, aged 84 years. By request, made before his death, a friend wrote the following obituary of his life:

Henry Whipple was born in Switzerland county, Indiana, four miles north of Vevay, on March 17, 1820. His father was of English descent and his name also was Henry. His mother, Emma Vanduzen, was of German descent, her father being a Methodist preacher. Henry led a moral life and at the age of fifteen was converted at a camp meeting and this action on his part exerted a powerful influence over his father, who up to this time had not been a religious man. He gave evidence of serious conviction, became a church member and established a family altar. On the 19th of May, 1839, Henry Whipple was married to Elizabeth Hord. Of this union ten children were born. The five who survive are John H., Martha, Asbury H, Sylvester and Daisy. Mr. Whipple was parted from his beloved wife by her death, which occurred Dec. 16, 1881. Since her death Mr. Whipple has made his home with his son Sylvester.
