Think He Was Murdered

Captain James Baldwin of Keyport started from that place with a load of oysters and clams for Albany, N.Y., on Friday, September 21. He stopped at Hudson, N.Y., with his boat for stores and he was missing on the following Monday. Two days later his body was found in the river beneath his boat. In one of his pockets was $67.71, while it is alleged that he had about $300 with him when he left Keyport. His family state that he always carried his money in two pockets and are of the opinion he was first robbed and then thrown overboard. Two years ago he was robbed of $200.

The body was brought to Keyport and the funeral held on Friday afternoon. Captain Baldwin had lived in Keyport about fifteen years. He was 46 years old and leaves a wife and five children.
