He married Elizabeth Knight of Fort Wayne on April 3rd, 1902 and had three children; Frederic Charles Peters (1902-1979), John Stuart Peters (1905-1956) and Jane Alice Peters known as screen actress Carole Lombard (1908 - 1942). They later divorced.
He lived in Fort Wayne until the final months of his life when he resided in Ann Arbor near two of his sisters. He died at University Hospital in Ann Arbor.
