Obituary:
Former Resident at Rest

Dr. George Henry Newhouse, 48 years old, born and reared in this vicinity and of late years a resident of Rochester, passed away at his home at 817 Eleventh Ave., N.E. Rochester at 8 p. m. Sunday of heart disease. He had been working about the premises all day and was suddenly seized with a heart attack and passed away about an hour later.

Deceased was born on the Newhouse homestead five miles east of Pine Island Oct. 22, 1878 and attended the rural school in his neighborhood. Later the family moved to the village where George attended school and in young manhood he attended the Chicago College of Dental Surgery, graduating in 1905.

Some sixteen years ago he moved to Rochester where he has since practiced his profession, He was prominent in city politics and served for a time as alderman from his ward and was once a candidate for mayor. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Odd Fellows, Red Men, Moose and Yoemen.

He was married twenty years ago to Marie Maurer of Milton who, with their daughter, Miss Lola, survives him. he is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Arthur Bolles of this place, Mrs. W. P. Duerre of Lake City, Mrs. Ben Swits of Watertown, S. D., and one brother, J. L. Newhouse of Corvallis, Oregon.

Funeral services were held at the home in Rochester yesterday and internment was made in the family lot in Pine Island cemetery. The remains were accompanied to their last resting place by a considerable number of members of the various lodges to which he belonged, also by a delegation of Rochester fireman [sic] to whom he had endeared himself by his efforts in support of their interests while in public life.
