VIDEAN.--The Rev. Richard Videan was born in Lenham County, Kent, England, March 23, 1825. He was the second of three sons, and survived his brothers. In 1830 the family came to America, and for a while resided in the Town of Ulster, Bradford County, Pa., but for years their home was about a mile south of Covington, Tioga County, Pa. It was here, in the spring of 1842, when at age 17, that he gave his heart to God. A wonderful yearning for the salvation of others expressed itself in tears and prayers and pleadings. Early in his religious life he gave himself to the Methodist Episcopal Church. In the fall of 1846 the writer became his pastor, and on October 3, 1846, joined him and Miss Sylvia Eliza Sampson in matrimony. Finding it impossible to reach Block-House Settlement on the Sabbath, it was soon arranged for Brother and Sister Videan to go there as a Supply; and some time in November they moved and started housekeeping and ministering. It was a year of great good to souls; but at its close Brother Videan's health was impaired. From this time until 1859 he lived on a small farm west of Covington. There his two daughters were born: Mrs. J. Wesley Rogers, of Forksville, and Mrs. Rush J. Thomson, of Dushore, Sullivan County, Pa. In 1859 he supplied East Charleston Circuit.
