She was a beautiful 2yr old baby girl who suffered severe child abuse and was killed. Shelby suffered massive bruises, burns, scars, starvation and severe diaper rash much of her short life. Despite of continuous reports to DHS authorities, Shelby was left in her mothers care. At the time of death, her skull plate was fractured. Both her hands were broken - and so were six of her ribs. Shelby died at home due to neglect and fatal injuries. DHS failed to protect this little angel.
Her mother, Heidi Watkins, 29, and her live-in boyfriend, Jessie Wendelsdorf, 25, were charged with first-degree murder. Wendelsdorf also was charged with first-degree sexual abuse.
