DIED: - On April 7, 1899, at his residence in Union township, Judge J. R. Hightower, in the 60th year of his age. Judge Hightower was born in North Carolina, has resided in this county many years and has always been one of its most respected citizens. Three years ago he was seriously crippled by a falling horse and since then has never been strong. Only last summer he was terribly shocked by the death of one of his sons by lightning. He served this county as one of its county judges and was always fair as an official. As a neighbor, as a citizen and as a man he always discharged his duty. No man in the community had more friends or will be more greatly missed. A large list of friends who knew Judge Hightower extend their warmest sympathy to the widow and children.
