He was born Oct. 2, 1912, in Hardtner in Barber County, to Calvin and Nancy Zickefoose Adams, and he graduated from Hardtner High School in 1930. He attended Southwestern College in Alva, Okla., for two years. He lived in Wichita before he returned to Hardtner where he worked at the Z-Bar Ranch. He also worked for Phillips Petroleum. He moved in 1947 to the Osawatomie community. He continued to work for Phillips Petroleum until he retired.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Paola, United Methodist Men, the Lions Club and the Grange in Paola. He was active in volunteer work with Boy Scouts of America and received the Silver Beaver Award, the highest honor bestowed on an adult in Scouting.
He married Dora Elizabeth Molz on Sept. 21, 1934. They lived in Olathe for more than 10 years before they moved to Paola in the early 1970s. She died June 14, 1993. He moved to Carbondale in 1997.
Survivors include a son, Stanton Adams, Osawatomie; four daughters, Betty Clearwater, Topeka, Zelores Partridge and Leah Smith, both in Osawatomie, and Benita Wollen, Carbondale; 29 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Paola. Burial will be in Osawatomie Cemetery. Relatives and friends will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Wilson & Son Funeral Home in Paola.
Memorial contributions may be made to Boy Scouts of America and sent in care of the funeral home.
