James Marion Land, 61, of Cottage Avenue died at 3:05 a.m. Sunday, May 5, 1996, at his home.

He was owner and operator of Freelancers Coin and Stamp Shop on Seventh Street for 26 years, retiring in 1995. He was a former employee of Cosco and was a member and lodge historian of Columbus Elks Lodge.

He was a former associate of In Full House Productions Dinner Theatre at Columbus Civic Center, where he directed and performed in numerous productions, and was a former member of Columbus Arts guild and the recipient of numerous Best Actor awards. He attended Purdue University.

Funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Myers Funeral Service, Hathaway–Myers Chapel on Pearl Street, with the Rev. Mark R. Teike officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday. An Elks Lodge memorial service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Bartholomew County Area Hospice or the Elks Cancer Fund.

Mr. Land was born in Anderson April 11, 1935, the son of Marion B. Land of Sarasota, Fla., and the late Pauline V. Vanderbur Land. He married Betty M. Mosier Nov. 24, 1955, at Osgood. She survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Dixie Mellis of Columbus; granddaughters, Stephanie Jo Nienaber and Kristen E. and Emily A. Mellis, all of Columbus; and a sister, Nina Smith of Sarasota.

Funeral for James Marion Land, 61, of Cottage Avenue was conducted Wednesday at Myers Funeral Service, Hathaway–Myers Chapel, with the Rev. Mark R. Teike officiating. Eulogy was by Jody Taber.

Burial was at Garland Brook Cemetery. Pallbearers were Randy Steel, Pat Rafferty, Jody Taber, Jim Crosby, Paul Rynerson, Dave Mensendiek, Phil Amos and Greg Land.

Mr. Land died Sunday, May 5, 1996, at his home.
