"Mrs. Nancy Massie Meadows, 74, of 217 S. Jefferson St., Lewisburg, W.VA., fell asleep in the Lord in Cabell Huntington Hospital, Thursday, March 27, 1986. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Melton Mortuary, Beckley, W.Va., by William Childs, pastor of First Baptist Church, Beckley. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Mrs. Meadows was born Jan. 25, 1912, in Clifton Forge, Va., a daughter of the late Edward R. and Julia Showalter Massie. She served the State of West Virginia as first Lady during her beloved husbands,' Clarence Watson Meadows, term in office as the 22nd Governor of the State of West Virginia, from 1944-1948. Gov. Meadows preceded her in death in 1961. Gov. and Mrs. Meadows maintained residences in Charleston and Fort Lauderdale, Fla., after his term in office. Following Gov. Meadows death, Mrs. Meadows resided in Lewisburg, at which time she served as social director for the Greenbrier Hotel in White Sulphur Springs. She was a graduate of Stuart Hall, Staunton, Va., and was an active participant in National Society of Colonial Dames of America; Daughters of the American Revolution; and various other civic and social organizations. She attended Old Stone Presbyterian Church, Lewisburg. She is survived by four daughters, Helen M. Owen of Newport News, Va., Mrs. Frederick A (Susan) Brown of Princeton, Ill., Mrs. Paul Lester (Nancy) Ghiz of Huntington and Mrs. Robert A. (Lynne) Roadarmel of Newport News; one sister, Mrs. Cabell S. (Elizabeth) Davis of Charleston; one brother, Edward Rodney Massie, Jr. of Daytona Beach, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 nieces and nephews. Mrs. Meadows was also preceded in death by her beloved sister, Helen Rivercomb. Pall bearers will be Paul Lester Ghiz, Frederick A. Brown, Robert A. Roadarmel, Robert H. Bradley, Rear Admiral Cabell A. Davis II, retired, Steven M. Brown and Paul Gregory Ghiz. Honorary pallbearers include H.P. Meadows, Paul Hutchinson, Sr., Bob Ashworth, Governor Arch A. Moore, Jr., Senator Jay Rockefeller, Honorable Hulett Smith, Honorable Okey Patterson, Honorable Cecil H. Underwood, Edward S. Yarid and Alex H. Gitz. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Beard Mortuary, where a prayer service will begin at 8 p.m., with the Rev. James Deeter officiating."

Information courtesy of Jim Samples: Governor Meadows died of a heart attack and kidney ailment 12 September 1961 in a Clifton Forge, Virginia, hospital while he was visiting at the home of his father-in-law. He was buried at Clifton Forge, but later his remains were returned to Beckley and interred alongside those of his father (Isadore Meadows) at Wildwood Cemetery, Beckley.
