The death of George W. Vandruff of Cedar Vale, Kansas was announced here last Sat. and that the body would be brought back here for burial. Byron and Frank, sons of the deceased arrived Monday noon with the remains, which were taken to Disco and from there to the Vandruff family burying grounds southwest 1-1/2 miles. A number of old friends gathered there to pay their last respects to one who had been a kind neighbor and friend for so many years. A committee from LaHarpe Lodge A.F. & A.M. went over and assisted in the burial of their brother. George W. Vandruff was born in Greene Co., Pa., Oct. 4, 1820 and died at his home near Cedar Vale, Kansas Jan. 1, 1886 at 11 a.m. Mr. Vandruff moved from Adams Co., Ill., in 1850 to Warren Co. and again to Hancock Co., where he resided continuously for over 25 years, going to Kansas in 1882. He was the father of 11 children, 6 of whom are dead. He was married twice, the second wife survives him but was unable, from poor health to attend his funeral. Five sons were living near him in Kansas.
