Mr. Richard Thomas Russell, Sr., age 84 of Crockett, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2008 in the East Texas Medical Center-Crockett. Mr. Russell was born May 18, 1924 in Bradford, Pennsylvania and was a resident of Crockett since 2001, formerly living in Houston. Mr. Russell was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps having served during World War II and was also a veteran and retired from the U.S. Army having served during the Korean Conflict and was the recipient of the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star with valor citation and the Korean Service Medal. Mr. Russell was a member of the American Legion Post #134 and Crockett Elks Lodge #1729. Mr. Russell was a R. O. T. C. Instructor for 10 years for the Houston Independent School District.
Survivors include his son Dick Russell and wife Marti, of Cypress; daughter Cathy Janak and husband Larry, of Crockett; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grand-children; brother Joseph Russell of Huston; sister Eleanor Koontz, of Ill.; sister-in-law Blanche Russell, of Houston; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Preceded in death by his wife Margaret Russell; parents Robert and Mildred Russell; and brothers John Russell and Bob Russell.
Military Graveside Funeral Services for Mr. Richard Thomas Russell, Sr. will be held Tuesday, July 15, at 12:00 p.m. in the Houston National Cemetery with the Rev. Damon Shook officiating. Interment will follow.
