Robert A. Middendorf, 91, of Hawcreek Avenue died Saturday, December 6, 2008, at 2:20 p.m. at his home.
Mr. Middendorf retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and Lutheran Layman's League. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and received a Bronze Star Presidential Unit Citation award, Destroyer Squadron 23 for heroism in action against enemy Japanese forces during the Solomon Islands Campaign from November 1, 1943 to February 23, 1944.
The funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Mike Malinsky officiating. Calling will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street and 9:30 a.m. to time of service at the church. Entombment will be at Garland Brook Mausoleum.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church or Ablaze through St. Peter's Lutheran Church.

He was born in Jonesville on April 22, 1917, the son of Edward and Clara Meyer Middendorf. He married Elsie S. Surenkamp on December 8, 1940.
Survivors include his son, Robert E. (Diana) Middendorf of Columbus; sister, Janet (Paul) Borgman of Jonesville; grandson, Matthew Middendorf of Columbus; and great-grandchildren, Kaleb and Nicholas Middendorf of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on June 4, 1996; and brothers, Edwin and Roy Middendorf.

The funeral for Robert A. Middendorf, 91, of Hawcreek Avenue was conducted Wednesday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Mike Malinsky officiating. Lisa Lohmeyer was pianist.
Entombment was at Garland Brook Mausoleum. Pallbearers were Roy Middendorf, Larry and Darren Borgman, Harry and Michael Marthaler and Tim Wells.
Mr. Middendorf died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at his home.
Arrangements were made by Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home.
