Funeral Rites For Mrs. Rogers Set Wednesday

Funeral services for Mrs. Hattie Ella Rogers, 93, will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday from Rains & Talley Chapel.

Dr. Arthur B. Rutledge, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Algoma Cemetery.

Mrs. Rogers died at 1:30 p. m. Tuesday at her home, 411 E. Merritt St., following a few days illness. She had been blind for the past seven years.

NATIVE OF COUNTY

She was born July 8, 1861 at Elysian Fields, the daughter of the late R. L. Hightower of Tennessee and Mrs. Martha Powell Hightower of Alabama, pioneers of Texas. She moved to Hereford in 1906 but returned to Harrison County five years later. From that time on Marshall was her home. Until recent years, Mrs. Rogers was active in work at the First Baptist Church, where she has been a member since early childhood.

Her husband, Brooks Rogers, preceded her in death in 1941. He had served on the city police force since their return from Hereford.

SURVIVORS LIVE HERE

Survivors include: four daughters, Mrs. Minnie Hall, Marshall; Mrs. Sam G. Bratton, Albuquerque; Mrs. Berry Orr, Hereford; and Mrs. Anna V. Bassow, Tallahassie, Fla.; two sons, J. B. Rogers Jr., Marshall, and T. Guy Rogers; three sisters, Mrs. Della Hawley, Marshall, Mrs. Mary Fortson, Bethany, La., and Mrs. Dixie Tenney, Houston; four brothers, W. M. and Richard Hightower, both of Elysian Fields, and Marion and Robert Hightower, both of Marshall.

Pallbearers will be Hendricks Hightower, Horace C. Blalock, W. Hugh McClelland, James Hightower, Rupert D. Everitt and W. M. Goodman.

Dr. Sam Tenney and Dr. Richard Granbery will serve as honorary pallbearers.
