Mary Ann was the daughter of Rowland WILLIAMS Jr. and Nancy Annie SWEAT. She was married 1st in 1857 to James Washington MATHIS (who later married her sister) and they divorced. She was married 2nd in 1867 to Edward WHIDDEN.
MRS. MARY WHIDDEN DEAD
Mrs. Mary A. Whidden died June 8, 1928, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E. A. Brannon, in Nocatee, at the age of 92 years. Mrs. Whidden was born in Baker County, Florida, June 2, 1835, and passed away on her 92nd anniversary. She came to old DeSoto County, near Wauchula, in 1858, later living for some time at Jupiter, Florida, until the death of her husband, Edward Whidden. She then moved to Arcadia to make her home with her daughter.
Mrs. Whidden is survived by her daughter and one adopted son, Will Whidden of Palm Beach; three brothers and two sisters -- Sim Williams of Tampa, Nate Williams of Fort Myers, Tom Williams of Moore Haven, Mrs. J. Morgan, and Mrs. W. Smith of Ft. Myers; also by 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 3, conducted by Rev. Sam Durrance of Wauchula, who was a grand nephew of the deceased. Among those from a distance attending the funeral were Fred Brown, of West Palm Beach, Henry and Edward Brooker, of Homestead, Tom P. Brooker of Miami, Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Matthews and sons of Lakeland. E. Van Potten was the mortician in charge.
