The remains of Rev. Finis Ewing, one of the founders of the Cumberland
Presbyterian church, who died in 1844, are interred in the cemetery
adjoining this city.
Finis Ewing was the youngest of 12 children of Robert Ewing and Mary Baker. In 1793, Finis Ewing married Peggy Davidson.

Born in Bedford Co., VA., July 10, 1773.
Died in Lexington Mo., July 4, 1841.
He was a Minister of the Gospel forty-five years. He was one of the Fathers and Founders of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church organized in 1810 in Dickson County, Tennessee.
