Margaret "Maggie" Lillian May Dudley was born in Newton, Illinois, the daughter of John Andrew May and Lavinia Margaret Vanderhoof May. She was their youngest child of five. Her brothers were Winston Otis May and Clarence Olen May. Her sisters were Ida Eliza May Reed and Olive Oda May Swick.
She came to Springfield in 1900 and married Ira Marion Dudley in 1902. They had one daughter, Helen, and two children who died as infants.
She took an active part in her husband Ira M. Dudley's contracting business until ill health prevented her from doing so.
She was survived by her husband Ira; one daughter, Mrs. Helen (Dayle G.) Malone, Chicago; one brother, Clarence May, Newton, and one sister, Mrs. Ivan Reed, Newton.
