Former Alabama First Lady. Born Cornelia Ellis, she married George C. Wallace in 1971, shortly before his second term as Alabama State Governor. She is best remembered for throwing herself over her husband when he was shot while campaigning as Democratic candidate for president in Laurel, Maryland, on May 15, 1972. She was also the niece of former Alabama Governor James E. "Big Jim" Folsom.
