James was the husband of Maria (Hardesty) Page and son of James Page and Elizabeth (Collins) Page. Maria and James were married on February 20, 1848 in Clinton County, Ohio. He was the father of eight children with Maria including: James Richard, John W., Benjamin Franklin, Sarah Elizabeth, William Thomas, Robert Wiley, Hosia Edmund and Horace Grant Page. James was a Private in Co. F, 4th Ohio Cavalry, Union Army, during the Civil War. He enlisted on February 22, 1864 at age 36 and died of disease on January 16, 1865 after getting sick on the march from Atlanta to Nashville.
