SPRINGFIELD - Jack L. Burris Sr., 77, of Springfield passed away Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009, at Memorial Medical Center.

He was born March 9, 1931, in Milltown, Ky., the son of James R. and Nonia Squires Burris. He married Inez Koontz in 1956 in Springfield. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mary Fulton and Geneva Prehoda.

Jack was a U.S. Marines veteran, serving in the Korean War. He was the owner and operator of First Electric Motor Shop. He was a member of IBEW Local 193.

He is survived by his wife, Inez; two sons, Jack (Mary Jo) of Springfield and Dave (Lynn) Burris of Riverton; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, James Burris of Andrew and Ray (Edith) Burris of Springfield; one sister, Flora Piper of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 2 until 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, with the Rev. Vaughn Beeman officiating. Due to the holiday, a graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The funeral procession will meet at the main gate of the cemetery and proceed to the gravesite at 10:45 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or the American Heart Association.
