Born in Vernon, Texas, he played at the defensive tackle position for seven seasons (1956 to 1962) in the National and American Football Leagues with the San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys and Houston Oilers. He was a member of the Cowboys' team during their league debut season in 1960. After playing collegiate football at Texas Tech University, he was chosen by the 49ers in the 3rd round of the 1956 NFL Draft and would appear in 85 career regular season games.
