Ivey William McAfee, the second of three children born of John Jordan McAfee and his second wife, Sarah Emily Ivey McAfee, was born on October 25, 1909, in Laurens County, GA. He was always called "Buck" by his family, and signed formal papers as I. W. McAfee.

He married Susie Lee Lawson, and he and Sue both taught school for many years. Buck also served as a school principal. He and Sue never had children of their own, but were beloved by many generations of their students.

Sadly, his last few years were blighted by Alzheimer's Disease, but Sue, with some help, managed to care for him at their home in Wrens, GA, where he died on March 13, 1993.

He is buried in the Friendship Church Cemetery near Bartow, Jefferson County, GA.

He was survived by his wife and by his younger brother, Roy Lamar McAfee (my father). He had been predeceased by his only sister, Mary Sallie McAfee Pennington (Mrs. J. W. Pennington).

I believe he had four half-brothers from his father's first marriage, and I am researching this information. I welcome corrections and additions to his biographical information, as I have always lived many hundreds of miles from him and was not fortunate to see him on a regular basis.

Many thanks to HOWARD BUROUGH for taking the photos of my Uncle Buck's grave marker!

Many thanks, also, to MARY ANN BROWN-POWELL for the magnificent job she did on editing the photo of my Uncle Buck from his youthful days on the family farm when he wore bib overalls!
