Dayleen LaVon Hobson Felt, 73, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 29, 2009, after enduring valiantly the effects of congestive heart failure.

Our dear wife and mother was born in Chicago, IL on September 24, 1935 to Max McCormick and Viola Kitt Hobson.

She was raised in Boise, ID, and attended then-Boise Junior College for two years. She worked in San Francisco as a secretary for General Electric and saved enough money to transfer to Brigham Young University.

There she met Richard George (Dick) Felt, and they continued their courtship in San Francisco and Washington D.C., where they loved the live concerts and culture of these historic cities. She worked as a secretary in the House of Representatives for Congressman Budge from Idaho.

Dayleen and Dick were sealed for eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on April 20, 1960. They lived in New York City and Boston for Dick's professional football career, then later settled in Provo, Utah, where Dick coached for BYU. They became the proud parents of Karen, Curtis, Kristie, and Nancy. Dayleen was a wonderful mother, homemaker, and devoted wife. Her life was her family and serving others.

An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in numerous callings, including Relief Society president and teacher, and secretary in the Stake Relief Society presidency. She served a mission with Dick when he was a counselor and branch president at the Missionary Training Center, where they worked together helping and counseling young missionaries in their first experience away from home.

Dayleen was a remarkably accomplished woman of many talents and organizational skills. She was a capable hostess, gathering family and making many occasions memorable with wonderful meals.

A devoted genealogist, Dayleen researched and interviewed extended family and co-authored a detailed book on her paternal grandfather, as well as writing histories of her maternal grandfather and father. She created numerous albums of Dick's professional football career and his coaching career at BYU.

Encouraging her children in their desire for higher education and seeing all four graduated from college, Dayleen resumed her own schooling at BYU and completed a degree in Human Resource Development. She and Dick opened their home to out-of-state nephews and nieces to assist them in their educational pursuits at BYU. Strong and optimistic, Dayleen bravely faced and conquered breast cancer 17 years ago. With a disposition for details, she researched her medical issues in depth and explored available alternatives.

She inspired others while volunteering for the American Cancer Society with her experience of beating the odds twice and continued her vibrant life with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She valued her association with members of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She loved her friends in the Edgemont 4th Ward, and enjoyed her morning ritual of walking with the neighborhood ladies.

Dayleen is survived by loving husband, Dick Felt, daughter Karen Felt, son Curtis (RoseAnn) Felt, daughter Kristie (Tom) Jolley, and daughter Nancy (Aaron) Osmond; brother Daryl (Ann) Hobson, sister Debbe (John) Koerner; and 16 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and step-parents.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at the Edgemont North Stake Center, 4300 North Canyon Road, Provo, at 11 a.m., with a viewing prior to the Funeral at 9:45 a.m. An additional viewing will be held at the Walker-Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 from 6-8 p.m.
Interment will be at East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery, Provo.
