Father Michael, S.A., attended St. Joseph Elementary School and Meriden High School. He entered the Franciscan Friars of The Atonement at Graymoor in 1949 and professed his first vow in 1951. He was ordained in 1957.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lorenzo & Filomena Ciasilli Daniel.
Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Anhony C. & Joyce Daniel; sisters, Anna Daniel Pisarski & Anita A. Daniel, and many other relatives.
Following Masses of Resurrection at the Franciscan Friars of The Atonement, Graymoor, Garrison, NY and the Little Sisters of The Poor, Washington, DC., graveside services were conducted Monday, December 17, 2007.

Mike was born in Meriden, Connecticut. He was the son of Lorenzo and Filomena Ciasilli Daniel. He had one brother and two sisters. Mike attended St. Joseph's Elementary School and Meriden High School. After high school, he enlisted in the Army. He was serving in Europe when he was captured by the Germans at the Battle of the Bulge in December, 1944.

Mike entered the community at Graymoor in 1949. A year later he entered the novitiate and was given the name of Camilus. He professed his first vow in 1951.
After completing his theological studies in Washington, DC, he was ordained a priest in 1957.
One of his first assignments was Assistant Novice Master to Charles Wannamacher, S.A. The friar-bother novices remember the cold Rhode Island winters and Mike opening the dorms windows every night after night prayers. The novices woke up at 5 AM with ice in their holy water fonts during the winter. It usually took about 5 minutes to wash up and get into the heated Brothers' Chapel for 5:30 AM meditation, morning prayers and Mass.

In 1964 Mike was asked to lead a group of friars to establish a mission in Jatai, Brazil. This was the period when Pope John XXII asked the Religious Communities throughout the world to send their members to South America. The Friars and Sisters both established mission in the Diocese of Jatai at the invitation of Bishop Benedict Corsica, OFM known as Dom Benedicto. The bishop appreciated the work of Mike and the friars in his diocese.

During the Friars' General Chapter held in Washington in 1967, Alexander Beaton was elected the Father General. Mike was elected Vicar General. Alexander and DeSales, Rector of the Minor Seminary in Montour Falls and also a delegate to Chapter, flew to Montour for the school graduation. On their return flight, the plane crashed while en route from Elmira, NY to Washington, DC. Both friars were killed in the crash. The Chapter was still is session and Mike was chosen Minister General of the Friars, and led us for 10 years.
He accomplished the renewal mandated by the Second Vatican Council. During his tenor as Minister General, Mike encouraged the friars to be move involved in Ecumenical Ministry, Campus Ministry and Parish Ministry.

When his term as General was completed, Mike became the Director of Ecumenism in the Archdiocese of San Francisco for several years. He initiated the Paul Watson Lectures at University of San Francisco. He was very well liked by the Ecumenical Community in the Bay Area and throughout California.

Mike did parish work in Rochester, England; Richmond, BC, Canada; Seaside, California; and Sterling Park, Virginia.

In his later days Mike lived at the Little Sisters of the Poor Home in Washington, DC. The home was just adjacent to Atonement Seminary in Washington.

Michael died on November 22, 2007 at Sibley Hospital in Washington, DC. He was 82 years old. A wake service took place Tuesday, December 4, in Little Flower Chapel, Graymoor. Mass of Resurrection was celebrated on December 5, 2007 in Little Flower Chapel.
On December 17 a Mass of Resurrection was celebrate at the Little Sisters of the Poor, 4200 Harewood Road, NE, Washington, DC, with internment at Arlington National Cemetery with military honors.
