Martin Whipkey died at his home two miles east of DeSoto, Thursday after an illness of several months. He was born in Pennsylvania in 1839 but his parents moved to this county when he was but a small child and he has since lived in Jackson county. He served in the union army during the civil war and has been a prominent farmer of DeSoto township for many years. He is survived by a wife and seven children. The funeral was held at the home Friday afternoon, interment in the DeSoto cemetery.
