His father immigrated from Canneto di Lipari, Messina, Sicily, Italy, arriving at Ellis Island on March 15, 1911, at the age of sixteen, and settled in Los Angeles. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army from 1943-1946, having done a tour of Europe during this time. Leno's father started a grocery business, Gateway Ranch Markets and State Wholesale Grocery Company, which would eventually become the second largest wholesale grocery business in Southern California. Leno started working at State Wholesale as a college student in 1942 and, by 1950, was elected to the board of directors and named Vice President of both Gateway Markets and State Wholesale. He married Alice Skolfield in 1944 and had three children - Corina, Anthony, and Louise. They divorced in 1955. When his father died in September 1951, Leno became the president of Gateway and Wholesale Markets. It was during this time that Leno sold State Wholesale and focused on expanding Gateway Markets. In 1959, Leno met Rosemary Struthers at a carhop in the Los Feliz neighborhood of L.A. and married her shortly afterwards. In 1968, he bought the Waverly Street house, that his father bought in 1940, from his mother. He would be found dead in that home in the early morning hours of August 10, 1969. The La Bianca's had just returned from a vacation the night of August 9, 1969 - less than 24 hours after the Tate murders on Cielo Drive. The last person to reportedly see them alive was a newspaper vendor, who took notice that Rosemary was extremely upset about the Tate murders. She was also overheard in the previous weeks to notice that things were amiss in her house - i.e., the dog was outside when they had left him inside before leaving the house, the door unlocked when they returned, etc. The La Bianca's were discovered by Rosemary's children from her first marriage - Suzan and Frank Struthers - who were concerned that no one was answering the phone.
