The funeral of R.S. King, who died Wednesday at the home of his son, J. W. King, near Canaanville was held from the Church of Christ in the city at 12 o'clock Saturday. The church was packed with friends of the deceased to call to show the respect for one whom they had loved as a neighbor and friend during the many years the family resided in this community. Interment was made in the city Cemetery. - Athens Messenger, December 5, 1920.

Served as 1st Lieutenant in Company H, 18th Ohio Infantry, during the Civil War. Married Hannah Burns on 11 October 1865 in Athens County OH. Died in Canaan Township.

Cause of Death: cerebral hemorrhage
