OBITUARY :
GEORGE M. SKELLY, a native of Gettysburg and until 21 years old a resident of this place, died suddenly from diabetes at his home in Springfield, Illinois, Saturday afternoon, aged 65 years, 6 months and 19 days.

He was a son of Johnston H. and Elizabeth A. Skelly, and as a youth entered the employ of Fahnestock Brothers. In 1871 he went to Springfield, which he has since made his home, following the furniture business until ten years ago when he acquired an interest in mining operations in New Mexico and a plantation in Spanish Honduras.

He was prominent in the militia of Illinois, and reached the rank of lieutenant-colonel.

He was a member of the Masonic fraternity.

He leaves two brothers and two sisters, John A. Skelly, Chicago, and Misses Sarah and Anna Skelly and D. A. Skelly, Gettysburg.
