William B. Taylor was born August 23, 1837 in Monroe County, Indiana. William and his brother Francis were working as potters in Winslow, Monroe Township, Pike County, Indiana around 1860. On April 27, 1862 William married his cousin Elizabeth Jane Abram. William fought on the Union side during the Civil War. On August 22, 1862 William joined Company I of the 82nd Regiment of the Indiana Infantry. He was mustered in to service as a Corporal in Indianapolis on August 27, 1862 and held the rank of Sergeant when mustered out on June 9, 1865. Around 1870, William moved his family and worked as a farmer in Beech Creek Township, Greene County, Indiana. In 1880, William and his brother Francis were working as potters in William's pottery shop in Scotland, Greene County, Indiana. In 1900 William is found working as a salesman and potter in Dugger, Sullivan County, Indiana. William retired around 1910 in Dugger.
William was one of the early founders of the Church of Christ in Dugger, Indiana. He was an Elder and a minister and performed many marriages and funerals. He was very active in the Dugger Community.
