Gerard Kerouac was the brother of famous author Jack Kerouac and Kerouac states, "The whole reason why I ever wrote at all...because of Gerard." Gerard died of rheumatic fever at age 9. Kerouac wrote a lyrical tribute to his brother entitled "Visions of Gerard" (1963).
