Professional Basketball Player, Coach, Broadcaster. He played at the center and forward positions for twelve seasons (1954 to 1966) in the National Basketball Association with the Syracuse Nationals, Philadelphia 76ers and Baltimore Bullets. He was a member of the 1954-1955 NBA Champion Nationals' Team. His other career highlights include three-time All-Star selection (1956, 1959, 1963). After playing collegiate basketball at the University of Illinois, he appeared in 905 career regular season NBA games, scoring 12,480 points with 10,092 rebounds. In 76 post season games, he scored 933 points with 827 rebounds. After retiring as a player, Kerr served as the first head coach of the Chicago Bulls' franchise for two seasons (1966 to 1968). He was named NBA Coach of the Year for the 1966-1967 season. He was later hired as the first head coach of the Phoenix Suns' franchise in 1968 and remained with them for parts of two season (1968 to 1970). Beginning in the mid-1970, Kerr served as a color-analyst with the Bulls and was part of the broadcast team during the club's dynasty years of the 1990s and the Michael Jordan era. Kerr died of complications from prostate cancer.
